It takes 10 years to conventionally breed a variety of rice. This can be cut shorter with biotechnological methods such as marker-aided selection, anther culture, and mutation breeding. A visit to the Biotech Laboratory will accord you a glimpse of the science and art and the precision and fun of biotech work.
The Rice Chemistry and Food Science Laboratory guarantees the quality of the
cooked rice you eat. Sticky, fluffy, or colorful - pretty much what's pleasing to the eye and the palate - are the qualities being tested and refined here. The Lab also creates food and drink products from rice and rice by-products. It houses highly sophisticated instruments for chemical and physicochemical analyses. It accepts requests for analysis.
Other laboratories are those of the Agronomy, Soils, and Plant Physiology and Crop
